Teaching Statement

An influential educator is like a high school basketball coach: He or she trains a team of players to succeed on and off the court. The coach is understands that a strong basketball player needs to understand the fundamentals of the game. A coach will do their best to build on a player's strengths and develop their weaknesses. Coupled with that, every coach understands that high school basketball players are people outside of the game. Because of this, Coaches develop players to be students first, and athletes second. An influential coach will do his best to encourage the players to pursue their studies with rigor, advocate for development in their life outside of school, and finally to be a well rounded basketball player. A successful coach will develop players who succeed on and off the court.
Like a basketball coach, an influential English educator will help every student succeed inside and outside of the classroom. As an English teacher, I will strive to equip students with the fundamentals of reading, writing, and thinking. I will do my best to build on every student's natural reading, writing, and thinking skills while developing their weaknesses. I will also encourage students to live a life of integrity, excellence, humility, compassion, and respect for other people. Student athletes are prepared for life on the court and off the court, and the same principle applies to every student in my classroom. I will strive to create respectful, thoughtful, and compassionate students who are equipped to communicate, and participate with the world outside of the classroom.
